Demonstrators led by the right-center Democratic Party used smoke bombs and various items to target the police they were clashing with, in an attempt to break through a cordon that protects the parliament building.
The opposition accuses the left-wing government of Prime Minister Edi Rama of being corrupt and linked to organized crime, accusations that the government is rejecting.
Since mid-February, opposition supporters have repeatedly tried to enter either the parliament or the government building, and the police prevented them from by using water cannons.
Rama's ruling Socialist Party says protests are damaging to Albania's progress towards membership in the European Union.
