President informs ambassadors about state platform

BELGRADE -- President Tomislav Nikolić met on Monday in Belgrade with Russian Ambassador Aleksandr Chepurin to discuss Serbia's state platform for Kosovo.

The Russian diplomat was informed about the progress made in drafting the document, according to the president's press service.
Chepurin also learned that the platform will be presented to parliamentary group leaders and representatives of Serbs from Kosovo "as soon as possible".

Chepurin for his part once again expressed Russia's support, and stressed that his country was ready to help advocate Serbia's position in international organizations.

According to a statement, during the "open and friendly" conversation, Nikolić expressed his gratitude to Russia for that country's support to Serbia's endeavors to preserve its territorial integrity.

Chinese ambassador reaffirms support

Serbian President Tomislav Nikolić informed Monday Chinese Ambassador to Serbia Zhang Wanxueon about progress made in terms of preparing a national platform for resolving the issue of Kosovo and Metohija and the ambassador said that, when it comes to Kosovo, China has a clear and consistent stand on the Republic of Serbia's territorial integrity and sovereignty.

Nikolić pointed out that Serbia appreciates China's principled position regarding the country's aspirations for the preservation of its territorial integrity and peaceful solution to the issue of Serbia's southern province, the president's press service released in a statement.

The Serbian president also said that he will seek support for the platform from the Serbian parliament and Kosovo Serb representatives as soon as possible.

The ambassador stressed that his country sees Serbia as an important partner in the Western Balkans, with whom China has fostered long-term mutual understanding, friendship and cooperation.

China appreciates Serbia's principled position on the issue of Tibet and Taiwan, and has a clear and consistent position on Kosovo-Metohija. It also advocated respect for territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia, Zhang Wanxueon said.

He underlined that China encourages national companies interested in investing in Serbia, and thanked President Nikolić for his personal engagement in providing adequate interlocutors and associates for representatives of Chinese companies in Serbia, the statement reads.

President meets with British envoy

Tomislav Nikolić also met with British Ambassador Michael Davenport on Monday, with the progress regarding the Kosovo platform on the agenda.

During "open and candid talks", Nikolić expressed the ambition of resolving the Kosovo and Metohija issue during this mandate so as to contribute to stabilization of the situation in the region, said a statement.

Davenport pointed out that his country "considers as positive the decision of Serbia to implement previously reached agreements", and continue the talks with representatives of Priština interim institutions.

He stated that the recent decision of the European Council regarding Serbia's further progress in the European integration is a positive sign that Serbia has "a new perspective for a European future".
