Greek Foreign Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos received Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Vladimir Titov at the weekend in Athens and reiterated the historical friendship which ties and binds both nations. According to reports, they discussed the enhancement of bilateral cooperation between both countries -in all sectors- combined with upgraded political contacts at the highest possible level.
Also up for discussion was progress of consultations towards on the signing of a new Greek Russian Action Plan for 2013-2015, and future cooperation in the sectors of energy and tourism between the two countries.
Avramopoulos stressed that Greece is one of the staunchest supporters of EU-Russian relations, and reiterated our country's support for a Schengen visa waiver for Russian tourists visiting the EU. On his part, Titov confirmed that Russian FM Sergey Lavrov is going to be visiting Greece at the start of 2013, following an official invitation by his Greek counterpart.
